Her Doctor wants us to start weaning her off of Vigabatrin since the EEG is normal which means we get to be scared to death yet again. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be a nervous wreck for the rest of my life....it's exhausting. Presley got her flu shot 2 weeks ago and I took her to get her MMR shot on Monday so now I have no more excuses to put the wean off any longer than I already have (it's been 8 months since her neuro wanted to start the wean). I'm going to bite the bullet and start the wean on Nov 22. I am very superstitious and I have a weird thing with the 22nd plus it will be her 10 month anniversary of being seizure free and it would have been my Grandpa Monkey's birthday so the 22nd it is.
Presley's continuing to make great progress and is even starting to make great progress in the speech department too! I took her for a speech evaluation in Oakland on Nov 3 and was told that there is no need for her to have any speech therapy right now. The therapist said she falls in the normal range for kids her age and that he wouldn't expect much more from her. Even though she doesn't "talk" a whole lot she uses non-verbal communication a lot and her receptive language (understanding) is improving a ton. She will feed her baby, get the ball, give kisses and get her shoes when asked. Her expressive language is getting better too. Here is a list of what she is now able to say:
mama, mom (if she doesn't see me she'll walk around the house yelling "ma,ma,ma" until she finds me
dada (she'll go to the front door in the afternoon when I say "dada's home" and try to open it for him)
ball (her first real word besides the dada, mama.baba)
baba
pop (when playing with her jack in the box)
more ( she is just starting to say this sometimes at mealtime while doing her sign for more)
done (does this with her "all done" sign at mealtime and it's more just a D sound right now)
dog (points to Ely and says dog)
baby (only heard this a few times)
animal sounds- quack quack, moo, cluck cluck, ssss (snake), woof woof, meow (she mostly just imitates animal sounds still except for quack quack which she will do without imitation when you ask what the duck says)
hi and bye accompanied by wave
night-night (sounds like ni-ni)
car (and vroom)
hot (in reference to my coffee cup)
uh-oh
Her therapists were right when they told me to speech will start to take off after she masters walking because I'm seeing lots of progress here. She's still been meeting pretty much all of her goals in OT and PT so I'm happy with that too. I just scheduled her IFSP (individual family service plan) evaluation for Dec 14th where I'll meet with all of her therapists and her case manager from the regional center to talk about her progress. I'm excited to hear what they have to say.
